Research Interests
This is a difficult topic to address, since my research has evolved quite a bit in the last few years. My training is certainly grounded in thermochronology and geochronology applied to exhumation of mountain belts, within a strong context of structural geology. Working in Canada, I have an appreciation of understanding the genesis of natural resources but am by no means an economic geologist nor petroleum geologist, although their funding contribution is important to my program. Mostly, I apply and develop thermochronology and geochronology to geologic problems of regional tectonic interest -- essentially the timing and rates of tectonic processes. In particular:
01 extensional tectonics of the Cyclades (Aegean Sea, Greece) 02 nano- to micro-scale rheological effects on macro-scale structures 03 HT & HP terranes: NW Himalaya (Pakistan), Caledonides (Sweden, Svalbard, Canada), Variscides (central Europe) & Grenville Province (Canada) 04 low-T thermochronology & thermal histories of the northern Canadian Cordillera & other petroleum systems 05 Neoarchean to Paleoproterozoic tectonics of Laurentia, with implications for ore deposits Interested in my BGR-funded expedition to the Canadian High Arctic? Jeremy, Jarek and I make a small cameo at the end of this (subtitles available): Geology at the top of the world (82°N) |
